Proloquo2Go is a high-tech communication application that provides speech output to support expressive communication for individuals with speech and language challenges. The app offers a customizable, symbol-based interface that allows students to select words, phrases, or messages to communicate their needs, thoughts, and ideas. By providing consistent access to vocabulary and supporting structured navigation, Proloquo2Go helps students develop functional communication skills, build independence, and engage more fully with their environment.

Proloquo2Go uses a core vocabulary system where the most common words are always available in consistent locations. This supports language learning and helps users build sentences that go beyond simple requests (from one word to longer phrases). The app includes features that help with conjugation and natural use of words so users can communicate full thoughts rather than just single words. It’s designed to grow with the person as their language skills develop.
As the speech therapist, it is my role to customize Proloquo2Go to meet each student’s individual communication needs. I thoughtfully select and arrange core and fringe vocabulary, keeping important words consistent while adding meaningful, personalized language (i.e., personal information, favorite activities, reinforcers). I also adjust the grid size and layout to match the student’s motor, visual, and learning needs so communication feels natural and efficient. By personalizing Proloquo2Go, I help students move beyond basic requests to express thoughts, feelings, opinions, and academic ideas. My goal is to ensure the device supports real language growth, social connection, and full participation across all environments
